Antonio Rodríguez
Ferrer (La Habana 1864 - 1935)
Composer and band conductor. Habana, August 23rd, 1864
– October 22nd, 1935. He started to write music
since his adolescence. When the Iondependence War ended
he entered conductig the band Cuba Libre, which came
before mambí troops entered in Guanabacoa, playing
La Bayamesa, hymn which will
become the National Anthem of Cuba,
to which he added its introduction.
He was also professor and conducted choirs. He produced
music for bands and, besides, two symphonic works: Preludio
temático and Fantasía, and
a series of Danzas Cubanas for piano.
